From Rochester, New Hampshire -?
After debates on Saturday night and Sunday morning where he was under attack, Mitt Romney came to the Rochester Opera House acting like he had nothing to worry about from his Republican opponents.
"We shouldn't have stopped, we should have just gone straight through the night, just keep on talking," a smiling Romney said to chuckles from the crowd, as he labeled the debates a "cure for insomnia" as he asked voters how many had watched the NFL playoffs instead of one of the debates.
If Romney was at all wounded by the attacks against him, he wasn't showing it to the crowd that showed up to see him, as the former Massachusetts Governor continued to act like he's already the GOP standardbearer.
"This President is a nice guy who just doesn't get it," Romney said to applause from the crowd.
"By his own definition he's failed," Romney said, echoing lines that he hammered home to voters the last few weeks in both New Hampshire and Iowa.
A week ago, Romney's campaign staff was hoping he could win the Hawkeye State; this week, anything less than a double-digit win would be disappointing, as the polls still show a strong lead for the former Massachusetts Governor in the Granite State.
On the stump, Romney isn't taking any chances, holding events where he doesn't take questions from the crowd, which is of course a staple of the New Hampshire Primary Experience.
"No questions?" said an old colleague of mine who now is a political analyst in New England as we stood in the back of the Opera House, a glorious old building that Romney said he had never visited before.
Romney did take questions at an event that I covered in Sioux City, Iowa in December, so he does get the audience involved - but what he likes to do is meet people by shaking hands afterwards.
Maybe that lessens the chance for a troublesome question that could become the basis for a story.
Bottom line - Romney seems in charge here in New Hampshire, but we'll see what the voters decide on Tuesday night.
I remember four years ago that Barack Obama was supposed to win.
And he didn't.
