G?day paddlers, in response to the survey about what people want from the club, the number one item was regular club paddles so we are launching bi-weekly paddles throughout the winter on Saturday mornings on the river Stour! We picked the Stour because it?s a safe environment for winter paddling and there are various routes which we can paddle. Here?s the scoop:
Where:
River Stour ? meet at Wick Lane carpark. From Barrack Road (A35), go round the big roundabout and exit at Sopers Lane. After about 1 mile, turn left into St Margarets Avenue. After about 200 meters, turn right into Wick Lane and keep left for the car park. Parking in the winter is ?1 an hour (we think).
Dates:
November 3rd and?17th
December 1st and 15th (Christmas Party;?http://www.facebook.com/events/228614880599141/)
January 5th and 19th
February 2nd and 16th
March 2nd and 30th
April 13th and 27th
Time:
On the water for 10am (so best to get there for 9.45am)
Suggested Paddle Routes:
These can be decided on the day by everyone and they are just a suggestion?
Wick Lane to Iford Bridge (Distance = 4 miles return)
-Turn right from the slipway and head up river to Iford Bridge. If it?s windy, then this will be a more sheltered route. If the tide is flowing downriver, then use this route and head against the tide and then come back with the tide (get the hard part done first).
-This route has 2 stops for food or drink ? one at Tuckton tea rooms and the other at Iford Bridge.

Wick Lane to The Beach Hut Mudeford spit (Distance = 4 miles return)
-Turn left out from the slipway and head down river. Keep to the right of the river and head down towards Mudeford spit. This paddle has more open space and will be trickier if it?s windy.
-This route has a stop for food or drink at The Beach House on Mudeford Spit

Wick Lane around the loop (Distance 2 miles)
-Turn left from the slipway and stay left. A nice cruise which takes us through the center of Christchurch town.
Please note the following
-These paddles will cater for all abilities as they are safe environments but we expect a certain level of experience i.e. you have paddled before and?are able to paddle the said distances with ease.
-Everyone should paddle as a group and ensure that no one is left on their own.
-Unless there is an update on Facebook during the week before the paddle stating that the paddle is cancelled, you can assume the paddle is happening.? The organisors will check the forecast and adivse only if the paddle is NOT going ahead ? therefore no news is good news!
-Non club members are more than welcome to join in these paddles but will need to pay ?2.50 to be covered on our liability insurance (that?s assuming they want to be insured but don?t have to be but will need to sign a waiver). We would encourage any non-members who are attending these paddles to join the club.
We?will create a Facebook Check-in which is ?BaySUP Stour Paddle?. So we all have to remember to check in when we arrive. It would also be great if you submit some pics onto the Facebook page so others can see what?s happening. We hope that these will be a success and encourage people to paddle together in a social environment.
Don?t forget that to buy a club hoodie so you can promote the club and of course look supercool in your club threads!! http://www.baysup.co.uk/clothing/
If you have any queries or questions, please feel free to contact us at baysup@gmail.com
See you at the first paddle on Saturday November 3rd!
Cheers
